|Merged catalogue of reflection nebulae|
Several catalogues of reflection nebulae are merged to create a uniformcatalogue of 913 objects. It contains revised coordinates,cross-identifications of nebulae and stars, as well as identificationswith IRAS point sources.The catalogue is only available in electronic form at the CDS viaanonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (188.8.131.52) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cgi-bin/qcat?J/A+A/399/141
|UBV beta Database for Case-Hamburg Northern and Southern Luminous Stars|
A database of photoelectric UBV beta photometry for stars listed in theCase-Hamburg northern and southern Milky Way luminous stars surveys hasbeen compiled from the original research literature. Consisting of over16,000 observations of some 7300 stars from over 500 sources, thisdatabase constitutes the most complete compilation of such photometryavailable for intrinsically luminous stars around the Galactic plane.Over 5000 stars listed in the Case-Hamburg surveys still lackfundamental photometric data.
|Stromgren and Hβ photometry of OB stars in the region of the Carina Spiral Feature|
Stromgren and Hβ photometry of 130 stars in the Carina section ofthe Milky Way is presented. The color excesses and the distances of allstars are obtained. A good agreement is found between the CM and HRdiagrams and the spatial distribution of these stars. |Astrometric positions of stars associated with nebulosities in the southern hemisphere.|
Several stars associated with nebulosities and cited by S. van den Berghand W. Herbst are included in the preliminary programme for theHIPPARCOS mission. When performing preparatory measurements of plates,we encountered difficulties in identifying certain of these objects whenrelying only on coordinates, which led us to take advantage of thiswork, which relates to the southern sky, in order to determine theastrometric position of all the objects in the list, to within 0.35''.This catalogue is available from the Centre for Astronomic Data atStrasbourg.
|A spectroscopic database for Stephenson-Sanduleak Southern Luminous Stars|
A database of published spectral classifications for objects in theStepenson-Sanduleak Luminous Stars in the Southern Milky Way catalog hasbeen compiled from the literature. A total of 6182 classifications for2562 stars from 139 sources are incorporated.

We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star,when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

|Bright blue stars in VELA observed with the 'Glazar' space telescope|
Seventy-one stars brighter than about 9 m have been detected at 1640 Ain the Vela region with the space telescope Glazar. It is shown thatmost of the detected stars belong to a B-type stellar association at adistance of 460 pc and to two OB stellar associations at distances of1100 pc and 1700 pc. The existence of B-type stellar association at adistance of 110 pc is suspected. A new O-type star cluster, which is apossible nucleus of the OB stellar association at 1700 pc, has beendetected. The distribution of the absorbing matter in the observed areais studied. We presume that the stars HD 75 063 and 76 534 are probablyembedded in a circumstellar dust shell. All observed stars, includingthose with unknown spectra, are early type stars.

An empirical calibration of the Stromgren uvby-beta photometric systemfor the A, F, and early G supergiants is being derived. This paperexplains the observational program and the photometric reductiontechniques used and presents a catalog of new Stromgren photometry forover 600 A, F, and G supergiants.
|A survey of Balmer-line profiles and IRAS fluxes in forty yellow supergiants|
Results of a survey of yellow supergiants (predominantly F and G) thatwas undertaken to search for distorted Balmer lines are presented. Acomparison between the photometrically variable and nonvariablesupergiants is made with respect to the distorted and undistortedBalmer-line profiles. To complement the analysis, IRAS data are used todetect excess infrared emission, to infer circumstellar dust, and tosuggest a possible prior M supergiant evolutionary phase. Plans forfuture work are briefly discussed.
|The velocity field of the outer Galaxy in the Southern Hemisphere. II - CO observations of galactic nebulae|
CO observations of 308 objects (77 percent) from a catalogue (Brand etal., 1985) of galactic emission and reflection nebulae are presented; COwas detected in the direction of 234 nebulae (76 percent). For 194 ofthese objects (63 percent) the emission could actually be associatedwith the nebula. Fifteen objects (5 percent) have associated CO emissionwith velocity in excess of 50 km/s (VLSR). These objects areof crucial importance as they are potentially very distant, and nearlyall of them have been newly identified. In the course of this surveyseveral sources with interesting line profiles were found. Eighteen ofthem exhibit wings and/or plateaus and are potential CO outflow sources.
|The velocity field of the outer Galaxy in the Southern Hemisphere. I - Catalogue of nebulous objects|
A multifrequency program to measure the velocity field of the outerGalaxy in the Southern Hemisphere (l = 230-305 deg) is outlined. Thispaper, the first in a series, presents a catalog of HII regions andreflection nebulae used as a basis for the study. Most of the entriesare previously uncatalogued; the emphasis is on small objects likely tobe very distant from the sun.
|New UBVRI photometry for 900 supergiants|
A description is presented of the results obtained in connection with asystematic program of supergiant photometry on the Johnson UBVRI system.During the eight years after the start of the program, almost 1000 starshave been observed, about 400 three or more times each. The originalselection of stars used the spectral type catalog of Jaschek et al.(1964) to choose supergiants. Since observations were possible from bothChile and Canada, no declination limits were imposed, and no particularselection criteria were imposed other than to eliminate carbon stars.These are so red as to require enormous extrapolations of thetransformation equations.
|Polarization of stars in R-associations - Observational data|
Polarimetric data are assembled for 95 stars that are illuminatingreflection nebulae. Most of these belong to 18 standard R-associations.The observed dependence of the percentage polarization P on wavelengthand color excess E(B-V) suggest that the unpolarized light ofR-association members may become polarized as it traverses an ensembleof dust grains aligned by a magnetic field which in some cases (Tau R2,Ori R1/R2, Sco R1, Cep R2) is intrinsic to the association. In certainR-associations the grain size is variable and the stochastic magneticfield component fluctuates on a scale of 10-30 pc.
|The F0 IA stars in NGC 457 and IC 2581|
H-beta and intermediate band observations of stars in NGC 457 and IC2581 are used to derive mean modulus and mean reddening values. Theformer cluster is found to be similar to h and Chi Per, although on areduced scale, while the latter is very similar to CMa OB I. The brightstars in the vicinity of IC 2581, which have been suggested by Turner(1973, 1978) to be associated with the cluster, may form an association,but not one which contains IC 2581. The reddening of IC 2581 is found tobe largely uniform, with the exception of the south-proceeding quadrantof the cluster.

|The young open cluster NGC 3293 and its relation to CAR OB1 and the Carina Nebula complex|
On the basis of visible evidence, NGC 3293 appears to be associated witha number of objects in the Carina Nebula complex. UBVRI photoelectricphotometry and MK-spectral specifications are presented for a largenumber of stars in this cluster and its surroundings (Car OB1). Over 70cluster members with spectral types earlier than B9 are identified. Starcounts indicate that the expected number of members brighter than V = 18is 297 plus or minus 9. The cluster appears to be situated just in frontof a dense dust lane, which itself appears to be part of the dustcomplex emanating from the center of the Carina Nebula.

An algorithm based on multiple stepwise and isotonic regressions isdeveloped for the prediction of spectral classification from photometricdata. The prediction assumes a luminosity class with reference touvbybeta photometry and the MK spectral classification. The precisionattained is about 90 percent and 80 percent probability of being withinone spectral subtype respectively for luminosity groups I and V and forluminosity groups III and IV. A list of stars for which discrepanciesappear between photometry and spectral classification is given.
